Do not read this article. Call us immediately on 01708 902 799 (Romford), 01245 925 799 (Chelmsford), or 01268 950 799 (Basildon). We answer 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our engineers cover all of Essex and can be on site within 2 hours.
Step 1: Assess the Security Risk
The first question is whether your premises is actively unsecured right now. If the shutter is stuck open, your premises is exposed. This is the most serious situation and requires immediate action, call us now rather than continuing to read.
If the shutter is stuck closed, your premises is secured, the emergency is operational rather than security-related. You have more time to handle this calmly.
Step 2: Call the Police If There Has Been a Crime
If the shutter has failed as a result of a break-in attempt, vandalism, or vehicle impact, call the police before calling us. Obtain a crime reference number, you will need this for your insurance claim. The police may also want to visit the scene before any repair work begins.
Step 3: Call a 24/7 Shutter Repair Company
Call us on 01708 902 799, Romford and east Essex, 01245 925 799, Chelmsford and mid-Essex, or 01268 950 799, Basildon and south Essex. We answer all three lines 24 hours a day.
When you call, tell us:
- Your exact address and postcode
- Whether the shutter is stuck open or stuck closed
- The make of shutter if you know it
- What happened before the shutter failed, did it make any sounds, was it the result of an impact?
- Whether there is any visible damage to the shutter
This information helps us dispatch the right engineer with the right parts, and gives us the best chance of resolving the fault on the first visit.
Step 4: While You Wait
If the shutter is stuck open, take the following steps while the engineer is on the way:
- Remove or secure any cash, controlled substances, or high-value items from the immediate area of the opening if this can be done safely
- If the shutter is a shop front opening directly onto a public street, consider whether you can remain on premises until the engineer arrives
- Take photographs of any damage to the shutter, these will be needed for insurance purposes
- Do not attempt to force the shutter, operate it manually without knowing what you are doing, or tamper with the motor or spring mechanism
Never attempt to repair or manually override a spring-operated shutter without proper training and equipment. Broken shutter springs store enormous energy and can cause serious injury if released incorrectly.
What to Expect When the Engineer Arrives
Our engineer will identify themselves, assess the shutter, and explain the fault before carrying out any work. You will receive a quote for the repair before work begins, even at 2am. The vast majority of emergency shutter faults are resolved on the first visit using parts from the van.
In the rare event that specialist parts are needed that aren't on the van, the engineer will secure your premises before leaving, either by temporarily repairing the shutter or by other means, and return the following morning with the required parts.
After the Emergency Repair
Once your shutter is back in operation and your premises is secure, consider:
- Reporting the incident to your insurer if the failure was caused by impact or vandalism
- Asking the engineer about the underlying cause of the failure and what can be done to prevent recurrence
- Setting up a maintenance contract to reduce the risk of future emergency failures, most emergency call-outs across Essex could have been avoided with regular servicing
We operate 24 hours a day across all of Essex. If your shutter has failed at any time of day or night, call us. That is what we are here for.
